Day 31 - My New Years Resolutions

So, it's almost the end of 2014 and the start of 2015. How quickly has this year gone?! It's amazing, it only feels like a few months ago that I picked up everything and moved, but that was 2013, mental!

This post is just about my New Years Resolutions, and I have a few!

Resolution number one is to quit smoking! It is an extremely expensive habit and I really really want to quit this year. It helps relieve me of stress at work but I just need to stop, and obviously a lot of health reasons why it would be good too also!

Resolution number two is to try and be healthier. This pops up every so often during the year but I really want to be doing exercise at least twice a week to start off with, and make my meals healthier also. This will be an easier resolution when I quit smoking as well!

Resolution number three is to promise myself I will do more this year. I really want to be living life more and live less for work, as I don't give myself enough time to do things I want to do, like go to concerts or visit friends more often.

Resolution number four is that I want to progress my career further this year. This may clash with number three but I want to feel happier in my job and hopefully push myself up the career ladder. This may involve and new job in a new company or a new job within my current workplace, who knows!

So there we go, maybe I will review this throughout the year as a sort of push to get myself through, who knows! Do you have any New Years Resolutions?

I wish you all a Happy New Year and hope you have a wonderful evening stepping into 2015, whichever way you plan to do it!

Day 25 - Seasons Greetings!

As I am working I wish you all a brilliant festive season and hope you all have a lovely day!

Just know I am very jealous of all your dinners and family time whilst I am sorting out the shop ready for Boxing Day!

Day 24 - Christmas Traditions

This year, obviously, doesn't go by traditions, as I am working every day from the 18th to the 27th, start playing the Worlds Smallest Violin for me, haha!

So usually, on Christmas Eve, my mum has bought my brother and I some new pyjama's to sleep in before we wake up for Christmas Day!

My absolute favourite thing when I wake up on Christmas morning is either on the end of my bed by my feet, or on the back of the door handle, it feels weighty and it's my stocking! Yes, I'm 22, but it is the best thing and I love how much effort my mum and dad go into it for us, such cherubs!

So then I'd take my stocking and go sit on my parents bed, with the cats and go through my stocking.

I can't really remember what order the rest goes, think it's presents, then dinner then cheesy Christmas films and naps, haha!

This year shall be different and I'll probably have a little cry on Christmas Day by myself but hey ho, I'm just emotional!

What are you traditions?

Day 18 - Just a little chat about anything that came to my head really!

I'm having a mind blank, I just writing this to try and get my mind into thinking of something to write. It is the hardest thing trying to start a post when in theory, you don't know where to start, so this may turn into a rambling post about anything and everything really!

Today is the first day of my working everyday until the 28th of December, but I am writing this on the 17th, as I know I'm going to be too knackered tomorrow and my mind will be even more blanked! It's a very busy time at work and I know I'm going to smoke 39489082 cigarettes over the next ten days, terrible habit that I am trying to quit (though over Christmas in retail is probably the hardest time to try).

Just listening to some Jose Vanders. I don't know if any of you have heard of her but I think she sings under the name of Layla now? But yeah, discovered her in 2007 and just rediscovered her and it's the best feeling! Do you ever rediscover music on your iTunes but just popping in on shuffle and seeing what comes up? Happened with My Chemical Romance a few months back and I reincarnated my 12 year old self. I can't believe I was 12, I used to absolutely love them! Posters, every CD, I was even on a MCR Forum, good ol' days ay!

Sometimes when I speak to people and tell them I blog, or post it on Twitter/Instagram, I wonder if they think I'm being egotistical by advertising myself, does that make sense? I feel a bit weird about it but I really enjoy it. Blogmas has been a bit full on, don't get me wrong I have loved writing all the posts about lots of different things but I kind of just like to blog because it gives me a excuse to write, and I miss it.

Well this has been a ramble about nothing in particular, and I highly doubt this will be worth a read but hey ho! I'm going to go do some washing up, a bit of a tidy, have a shower, watch a film then go to bed!

Day 17 - The Most 'Glorious' Christmas Gift!

So at the weekend some of you may be aware that there was a very exciting Star Gift of the Week going on at Boots, online and in-store...the Soap & Glory The Next Big Thing gift set! Oh my gosh it is beautiful and as I opened the box, the smell was even better!

Invision trumpets, bright light and angels as I open the box!

So this boxed gift set is full of sensational smelling goodies, all 11 of them! It comes in a little wash bag thing as well, which is super handy for the travelling back to the island and putting all my toiletries in.

Here's the washbag, it's of a pretty good size, so perfect to hold all your shower bits and bobs!

So yeah, eleven brilliant full size products, and for only £29 from £60! I was lucky enough to get it online before it sold out, but apparently it has been the fastest selling set yet, phew! Plus if you were to buy it all separately it would cost £75, which is even more of a bargain!

Here it all is! Some products I have used before and others that I haven't.

As I have said, some of these products I have used before and others I haven't. The Orangeasm Body Wash smells exactly like fresh orange juice, it is amazing! I've used the Sugar Crush products before which also smells gorgeous which I am sure you are more than aware of! The Sexy Motherpucker Lip Lacquer in Charm Offensive is lovely also, wearing it at the moment and I usually don't like lip glossy sort of products but this one isn't too sticky which is great.

Hattie Stewart designed the packaging also.

So last year it was designed by Jonathan Saunders which was beautiful with silver and pink packaging but this year is has been designed by Hattie Stewart and it's great! Really jazzy and not too festive if that makes sense?

It could possible be a gift for any time of the year really! Save it away for a birthday or a mothers day gift, if you have already got all your presents!

Did you manage to get yours hands on this gift set? I feel so lucky that I did!!

Day 16 - My favourite blogs to read

Hello again! Today's post is about my favourite bloggers I will get excited about every time I see a new post pop up on their twitter.

Beautycrush is one of my favourite blogs. Sammi has an incredible style, her tattoos are amazing and her little puppydog is adorable too. In all seriousness I pretty much love any London bloggers as it is such an incredible place, with so much to do and see. But yeah, she never has anything that doesn't look brilliant on her, and I love her YouTube channel as well, especially the vlogs!

The sweetest blog. Becky has the most beautiful home from what I have seen through her posts and everything is so cute. Her instagram is brilliant as well, I just love the look of everything, very aesthetically pleasing!

Jasmin's blog is fab. I really enjoy it as there is a lot of variety on there, which means that there is always something new and unique to read. I would love to try some of her recipes but I'm only really good at baking, but her Sweet Potato soup recipe is on the top of my list though!

I love Lauren's blog. I really enjoy her tags and recipes, yet another set of blog recipes I need to try out, haha! She's going through a breast augmentation at the moment and even though I don't want or need one, I find it really interesting and the information she gives is great advice for anyone contemplating an operation.

What are your favourite blogs? Link me yours as I enjoy a new read! :-)

Day 15 - Favourite Christmas Films...again!

So I obviously chose the wrong topic for my general Christmas post as I have already done this one!

Apologies but I shall leave a link here for my post previously about this, just in case you haven't already read it. :-P

Day 14 - Christmas Inspiration

Hi again! I'm so impressed I've made it almost halfway, and only with a couple of hiccups! From now until Christmas Day may get very hectic and my upload times may get a bit rubbish but I will try my hardest to get as much done as possible tonight and tomorrow in preparation!

Anyway, rambling over, this is my Christmas inspiration blog post, all the things that have given me great Christmassy spirits and ideas, from trees to nails, my Pinterest is full of all the things I have found and loved.

I have recently been getting back into Pinterest so I would love to see your boards and the things you love on there, leave your links below so I can have a little lookie!

Day 13 - Winter Nails

I decided to skip day 12 as I am about as crafty as a snail (not very crafty at all). So here is day 13, my winter nail polishes that I love! You may be able to tell I am a big fan of layering polishes with GLITTER so be aware of that!

I love having grey or blue nails, depending on what outfit I'm wearing, these tend to go with anything! I'll got from left to right of the colours now for you.
Seventeen Colour Carnival in Light Grey 062 with Essie in Pure Pearlfection overlay

Day 11 - My Winter Essentials!

So today's post is about my Winter essentials, the things the get me through the colder, wetter and windier days of the year. The things that keep me sane over the busy few weeks before Christmas and the things that keep my hair and skin chap and flyaway free!

Burt's Bees Dark Chocolate and Blueberry Lip Balm

I luuuuurve Burt's Bees anyway with it being 100% natural and I love the original one anyway but this one is super super yummy! My lips are very prone to chapping in the Winter time and these lip balms are brilliant for keeping my lips all supple and soft, perfect!

Palmers Cocoa Butter Body Lotion

Just reading those words you can smell it can't you?! The yummiest body lotion ever and really leaves you feeling smooth and moisturised on those days where you just need a pamper and a smooth up after the dry skin days.

Benefit Triple Performing Facial Emulsion

My favourite moisturiser through all the seasons! Super lightweight but does an amazing job of keep my skin moisturised and protected throughout the day. I only discovered Benefit skincare a few years ago and it is definitely just as good as the make-up, would highly recommend their eye cream also!

My two pusscats!

Wilson (top) and Moby (bottom) are my two lovely cats that keep my calm and happy when I am back home on the island for Christmas and annual leave. Moby is the cutest little puss as he comes and sleeps on my bed every night that I am at home and scratches at my door when I've gone back up to my second home. Wilson is just a crazy cat and I love his quirky little personality. It is a true fact that cats release stress relieving endorphins so whenever I am home and near them I'm as calm as a millpond!

Schwarzkopf Essence Ultime Omega Repair Beauty Balm

This is an absolute hair miracle! I use a pump of this on damp hair after washing and then blow dry it and it feels so soft, smooth and really healthy! It doesn't weight the hair down and it doesn't feel like you've put product in your hair, if that makes sense? With some products similar to this it can feel like you've doused your hair in product but with this it is as if it has soaked into the hair folicles.

Lush Shine So Bright Hair Balm

This stuff is a godsend when the wind has decided that it wants you to look like you've been dragged through a hedge backwards then given a noogie (who remembers noogies?!). Put a little bit of this balm in your ends and you are good to go, as it's full of oils that are good for the hair to get everything soft, smoothed and toned. Sometimes if my hair is that bad in the Winter I will rub a very small amount onto any flyaways I've got on the top of my head. Don't use too much of this though as it may leave you looking like a little oil/grease monkey!

What are your Winter essentials? Do we have any in common?

Day 10 - Gifts for the guys!

So this post is my top picks for dads/brothers/uncles/friends/boyfriends! I always used to find it so hard trying to find gifts for them but there are so many websites that stock brilliant gifts for the boys nowadays. There's something for every male in your life in this post so read on if you are feeling a bit stuck this close to Christmas!!

I love this set from Esprit! A lovely combination of gifts and a brilliant price for a leather wallet also. I feel this would be great for any member of the family. After having a search for gifts for this post I think I may just have to purchase this for my dad as he definitely needs a new wallet as his has got a little bit tatty over the years, and I know it is not something that he would usually buy!

A beautifully packaged leather pen and case from Ted Baker. Probably not the best gift for someone who often loses pens as it is quite a steep price, just for a pen, but I think it would make a great gift for a friend at work, or a good friend who wouldn't lose pens! The case itself if beautifully crafted also, with intricate detailing and decoration.

Bonus points if you guess the film! I love this comical gift and it's something I think my brother would find super amusing! Firebox are awesome at stocking gifts that bring a chuckle to me and have unusual but brilliant gifts. I also love their little descriptions of the products, for example: 'A suitable addition to your underground/volcanic/submarine 'lair'', chuckle!

Another brilliant gift from Firebox, perfect for a Secret Santa gift! With five different games to choose from (Donkey Kong 64, Mario Kart 64, Goldeneye, Super Smash Bros, and The Legend of Zelda) there is definitely at least one there that will totally appeal to him (or her, I'd love this!). At £9.99 each I think I'd get a few and package them in a DIY Nintendo box for a brilliant reaction on Christmas Day!

So there are a few ideas from a couple of my favourite online sites for gifts for the boys! There are endless ideas on Firebox for fun gifts and never ever forget about Notonthehighstreet, as there are some great family and dad presents on there, and lots of personalisations! What are you getting the men in your lives? What are your favourite websites to shop on for them?

Day 9 - The biggest cornflake cake fail!

So for this blogmas post I thought 'hey, why not try to make some white chocolate cornflake cakes? With a Wintery theme!', now, what was a great idea if it had worked, turned out as a bit of a fail!

They ended up like this, the only Wintery aspect to these cakes being the glitter and snowflakes I bought for decoration...DOH!! The golden syrup and white chocolate did not make the desired colour obviously due to golden syrup being...ahem, golden.

I don't really feel there is anything else to write about these, or even how I did them as it was an epic fail but I feel I need to show you guys that it does not always turn out right first time, and after a super long day at work, I didn't really want to experiment after this fail! So apologies for a bit of a rubbish post today! Embarrassing!

Day 8 - A day in the life of Philippa...

So today's post is a photo diary , so I've decided to do a sort of 'Day in the life' sort of thing, so here we go!

My alarms to get me out of bed this morning! Luckily enough I only slept in until the second alarm, which makes quite the change! So got ready and headed to work, it was super cold this morning so had the heated seats on in my car, score!

Skipping the boring fill the shop because night team didn't finish doing it, here was my well deserved breakfast! Work breakfasts are the best as you can have a bit of everything and it still costs less than if I'd have gone for a breakfast at a café, wahoo!

Here's a selfie of me and my work pal on our very festive Christmas hats, spreading Christmas joy around the shop, haha! Having Christmas songs playing over the tannoy all day may annoy some but I love a good cheesy Christmas song!

Coffee break! Here's a picture of my amaaaazingly yummy Christmas coffee from Giraffe, they are oh so yummy and if you have a Giraffee restaurant near you, go try one! My work pals and I are pretty much regulars in here (there's no pretty much, we definitely are) and always make time for a cheeky G.

As the day went on, I clearly decided it was time for some treats! Just to make you aware these weren't all for me!! I gave my workmates some before trooping on through. My delivery turned up so I decided to unpack it and set it up for my night team.

This is the time I got home!! A very long day but it's worth it and very much needed when getting this close to Christmas, can you believe it's two weeks on Thursday until Christmas?! It really has crept up this year, mental!

Here's my last picture of the day, with some left over M&M's and the Royal Variety Performance, feet up and in my favourite festival Reindeer onesie (that I not so secretly wear all year round)!

If you have done this post link me below! I'm sure you'll have a more interesting day than I have!

Day 7 - All I want for Christmas is...

Right! I have caught back up, hurray! Today's blogmas post is my gift wishlist and to be quite honest, there isn't too much stuff that I want really! I have enough clutter and hoarded goods in my room to last me a lifetime but I guess there are a few bits that would be nice to add to the hoard...

I really really want to get home to the island for this one! Fleetwood Mac are only bloomin' headlining!!!! I have been waiting for this day and I cannot decide whether it is going to top seeing Paul McCartney at the festival a few years back but all I know right now is that I have to be there to see them. The Isle of Wight Festival happens every year on the Isle of Wight (did you guess?) and it is such good fun, for all the family there are things to do and see if you do not fancy watching one of the many acts that are on during the day and night. I would highly recommend this festival as it is very easy going and probably (second to Bestival maybe) the friendliest festival I have been to.

I have been meaning to buy myself this foundation for years after I recieved a sample of it in a magazine. It fits my skin so well and is an absolute dream to wear. It feels and looks weightless but leaves my skin looking radiant and clear. It's currently on offer on the Boots website down from £32 to £25.60 so I think I may have to treat myself to an early Christmas present. To me, Merry Christmas, From me.

Simply because it is the cutest little t-shirt I have ever seen and I love cats, I also found these Paperchase cat highlighters on ASOS and I need them but they are sold out. I love cats ok?!

I am absolutely besotted with this jacket as it combines lots of things I love; faux fur, faux leather and check. I would probably look like roadkill in it but I think it is beautiful I would love to adorn this on the daily.

Link me your Christmas Gift Wishlist, it might give me some ideas for what my parents can get me! :-P

Philippa x

Day 6 - Cosy Winter Nights!

I'm behind again...already! I tell you, working 45+ hours a week in retail over the Christmas period whilst trying to keep up with daily blogging is quite difficult, but I'm trying so bare with me!

This blog post is about what I like to do on cosy Winter nights, and it is actually what I did this evening! I got out of work at about half six and thought that I could write this blog post on my cosy Winter evening this very eve!

So first, I like to light some candles and make myself a hot drink to take into the bath with me. My candle of choice tonight was my all time favourite, Macintosh Spice by Yankee Candle. It is possibly the most Autumnally/Wintery scent ever, with lots of spicy cinnamon-y hints within it, yum! I made myself a hot Ribena in my best mug (I like cats, a lot), and ran my bath.

I then started to run my bath and crumbled in my Lush Christmas Hedgehog (he lost his nose in transit) and I felt mean crumbling his little face into my bath but I used all of him and he bubbled up my bath like no-one's business! I didn't really gather a huge scent from this product but, as always with any Lush product, it left me feeling super soft and squeaky clean afterwards!

Then I jumped in the bath (not literally), slapped on a chocolatey face mask, which was very hard not to eat as it smelt amazing, and relaxed.

I watched a few Vlogmas videos on YouTube whilst laying in the bath and I love to do that routine to de-stress me from a hectic week, absolute bliss!

What do you like to do to relax yourself into a cosy Winter night? What Lush products would you suggest to help me relax? I'd love to know!

Day 5 - Books!

So I love a good read, I'm a big fan of a crime/thriller/mystery book and my favourite author is Stephen King so I do not expect too many light hearted books in my list of books I need to read!

'Who are you? What have we done to each other? These are the questions Nick Dunne finds himself asking on the morning of his fifth wedding anniversary, when his wife Amy suddenly disappears. The police suspect Nick. Amy's friends reveal that she was afraid of him, that she kept secrets from him. He swears it isn't true. A police examination of his computer shows strange searches. He says they weren't made by him. And then there are the persistent calls on his mobile phone. So what really did happen to Nick's beautiful wife?'
Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. I need to read this book! Now I am not the biggest fan of watching the movie then reading the book but I went to see the movie and I need to read the book! As always there are parts of the book that the movie always misses out and I want to read those bits!

'A spectacularly dark and electrifying novel about addiction, religion, music and what might exist on the other side of life.
In a small New England town, in the early 60s, a shadow falls over a small boy playing with his toy soldiers. Jamie Morton looks up to see a striking man, the new minister, Charles Jacobs. Soon they forge a deep bond, based on their fascination with simple experiments in electricity.
Decades later, Jamie is living a nomadic lifestyle of bar-band rock and roll. Now an addict, he sees Jacobs again - a showman on stage, creating dazzling 'portraits in lightning' - and their meeting has profound consequences for both men. Their bond becomes a pact beyond even the Devil's devising, and Jamie discovers that revival has many meanings.'
Revival by Stephen King. King is my favourite author and I love how all his ideas are amazingly original and I can read just two or three pages of one of his books and I cannot put it down until I have finished it. He is an incredible author and I recommend all of his books!

'One cold night, in a most unlikely corner of Chicago, Will Grayson crosses paths with . . . Will Grayson. Two guys with the same name, running in two very different circles, suddenly find their lives going in new and unexpected directions, and culminating in epic turns-of-heart and the most fabulous musical ever to grace the high-school stage.'

Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green and David Leuithan. I have been reading this book and it has been written in such an interesting way. Each chapter is the different Will Grayson if that makes sense? So one chapter is written by Green, and one by Leuithan. It takes a little while to get used to but when you do, it is a good read! I think when I have finished the book I might read it as two separate books and see how I find it!

John Green has also written The Fault in our Stars, which you may have heard of. :-P David Leuithan has written collaborative books before including Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist, which I highly recommend both the book and the film!

Have any of you read any of these books? What books are you reading at the moment?

Philippa x

Day 4 - Decorations!

I'm a day late, ahh! Had a stupidly hectic and busy day yesterday and I had not pre-written this post unfortunately so here we go! I love a bit of glitz and glam, and not just at Christmas! When I get my own place it will be adorned with all sorts, themed rooms, vintage-y decor is probably my favourite. Here are some of my favourite Christmas decorations for the home I've found this year.

I absolutely adore Next's home furnishing all year round, let alone at Christmas! Their decor always brings me comfort, maybe because it reminds me of home, I'm not sure but it is always so beautifully done, big props too their marketing team for making me want to buy it all! I am in love with this beautiful card holder, you can use it for more than just cards and for more than just Christmas. It's like an alternative notice board, I really love it. I also think this pair of deers are really sweet as well, with a gorgeous metallic finish I would sit them in my house all year round!

Next Set of Deer - £20                      Next Lit Card Holder - £25

Tesco Direct have also got some lovely bits and pieces this Christmas, and I love that I can double up my Clubcard vouchers and spend them on these bits! Gisela Graham has a stunning range of glass and wooden decorations on the website and I think they are a lovely alternative to the usual baubles and tree decorations. They'll add a bit of uniqueness around the house, not just on the tree!

There were a couple of other bits that caught my eye on the website that I liked. This 6ft berry garland would look lovely draped over a fire place, or weaved through the staircase with a few lights weaved as well. I also really like this deco tree, adding a bit of modern to the house. These few bits are such a bargain also, when they look like they could be a bit pricey!

Tesco Berry Garland 6ft - £15              Tesco Black and Gold Deco Tree - £4

So there are a few of my favourites from my two favourite homewear shops, what are your favourites and where have you got your decs from?
